       Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS), also known as Fetal Calf Serum (FCS), is the most widely used growth supplement for cell culture media due to its high content of embryonic growth-promoting factors.        Heat inactivation of serum is performed by raising the temperature of the serum to 56ºC and maintaining that temperature for 30 minutes. Heat inactivation is the method of choice to destroy complement proteins activity.
